Traditional marriage – that of one man and one woman “until death do us part” – is under attack today. The new world view is to “do your thing”, as long as it’s not hurting anyone else. Liberal wedding vows no longer use the words “’til death do us part”, rather “for as long as we both shall love each other”. Starter marriages and quickie divorces seem to be the norm. Enough is enough. It’s time we stand shoulder to shoulder for an ideal that is much larger than just ourselves, much larger than how we “feel” when times get tough. If, as a nation, we don’t stand for something, then we’ll fall for anything. God ordained marriage to be between one man and one woman for as long as they both shall live, yet as a nation we’ve distorted God’s word to suit our own desires, which is sin.
As husbands and wives, let’s stop approaching marriage with a self-serving attitude due to our own selfishness and sinful nature, and let’s start modeling the life of Jesus to serve our spouse and others.
